Finding My Future

In episode 12 of Digital Activism, my Mom and I talked about how I became more extroverted and what I want to do after graduation. We also talked about how I found Piedmont, which is a major part of my story and future.

Growing up, I knew I needed to go to college. Being disabled, my career choices are limited, and I knew I could not work a trade job like most of my family does. The issue I had was that I did not know what I wanted to do. I had not found my passion until sophomore year of high school. I started the AVTF (audio, video, technology, film) class and I instantly loved it. Not only have I always been interested in films, but everyone in the class, including the teachers, were amazing, accommodating, and super helpful!

I kept taking the class and was very involved in filming, competition, and broadcasting until graduation. My senior year, my teacher, Mrs. Kayla Amason, told me to apply to Piedmont and pursue a degree in Mass Communications. She listed every class I would be taking and I filled out the application in her class.

Now, I am about to graduate with a bachelor's degree in Mass Communications and a minor in film studies. I still have a love and passion for film, but I also gained a love for journalistic writing and marketing. To me, marketing almost feels like the workforce version of the Mass Communications department.

I am still figuring out what job I am going to do, but I know that I am prepared for many different opportunities!

Did you know what you wanted to do as a career in high school? Are you still doing that job?
