Being Disabled is Expensive!

Over the years, especially since I have gotten older, I have realized how expensive it is to be disabled. Just in terms of equipment, I use a wheelchair, Hoyer Lift, shower chair, an used wheelchair accessible van, an adjustable bed, Amazon Echo, smart lights and plugs, and other items that I no longer or rarely use.
Items and estimated prices without insurance:
Wheelchair: $38,279
Hoyer Lift: $1,500 - $3,000
Shower Chair: $200 - $900
Wheelchair Accessible Van: Price vary significantly
Adjustable Bed: $350 - $1,500
Amazon Echo: $95
Smart Light Bulbs: $60/each
Smart plugs: $20/pack
These prices vary depending on product, brand, business, etc., but they are all necessary for me to live and be somewhat independent. I am fortunate enough to have had insurance assist me with my latest wheelchair, lift, and shower chair. However, since turning 21, I am unsure what my insurance now covers. Now that I am over 21, my insurance doesn't cover teeth cleanings, but they'll cover extractions and x-rays. It also no longer covers eye appointments. The change in what it covers is a little ridiculous, in my opinion. I have been warned by other disabled wheelchair users that after childhood, it can be difficult to get insurance to cover equipment. This is why I got all new equipment, including a wheelchair, before I turned 21.
I also am beginning the process of seeing what getting a job is going to change in terms of insurance and government support. Do you have any advice for transitioning into the workforce for the first time as a disabled person?
